We understand the need for some municipalities to have a commercial relationship to their supplier, and for that purpose we propose a monthly/yearly Maintenance Contract. What do you think would be a good amount to charge for the Maintenance Contract?

We also propose that we train the people we're going to support, of course, and that has its own cost, I think it was R3k per person per day, and it includes free telephonic support for trained personnel during office hours...

It depends how large the municipality is, how many meters are being read, and how many different services do we support? For instance, what is the Billing Export used to send the readings to the municipality's accounting system. There could also be various other services used for e.g. SAP AMI integration management and troubleshooting, last gasp modems related integration, calibration test bench integration, or uploads to the customer portal, etc. There might also be backups to support, server space that needs to be managed, Master Standby installations to stay on top of, and various other day to day server management operational issues that might occur.

A typical value of a maintenance contract for a large municipality in South Africa, where they manage the system themselves, and we mostly do troubleshooting and various small bug fixes and developments, is about R40,000.00 per month.
