Optical probe USB Driver Installation Guide
Overview
When connecting an optical probe via USB, Windows may not automatically install the correct driver. The device will appear under Other devices in Device Manager instead of Ports (COM & LPT). This guide explains which driver to download and how to install it.
Symptoms
You will see the following in Device Manager:
- Device appears under Other devices -> CP2102 USB to UART Bridge Controller
- Device does NOT appear under ports (COM & LPT)
- Manufacture software cannot detect the optical probe
Which Driver to download
Download the driver from the Silicon Labs website: https://www.silabs.com/developers/usb-to-uart-bridge-vcp-drivers

Installation steps (Windows 10/11)
Step 1: Download the driver
- Go to https://www.silabs.com/developers/usb-to-uart-bridge-vcp-drivers
- Click on CP210x Universal Windows Driver (v11.5.0)
- Download and extract the ZIP file
Step 2: Install the driver
- Open the extracted folder
- Right-click on silabser.inf
- Select install
- Unplug and replug the optical probe USB cable
Step 3: Verify Installation
- Open Device Manager
- Confirm the device now shows under Ports (COM & LPT) as: Silicon Labs CP210x USB to UART bridge (COMx)
- Note the COM port number (e.g COM3) for use in your manufacture software
