I want to start my own Prepaid company.
What will I need for this and what meter do you recommend?

Firstly, which prepaid method do you intend to use: Conventional STS or Smart?

Conventional STS:
  • No need for PNPSCADA: You don't need PNPSCADA unless you want to offer an additional service for monitoring electricity theft.
  • Meter-based Wallet: The wallet is on the meter itself.
  • Token Purchase and Entry: You buy STS tokens and enter them directly on the meter.
  • Supply Group Code (SGC):
    • Your own SGC:
You can get and load your own SGC on the meter, meaning only you can vend tokens for that meter. But you'll need to set up your own kiosk for tenants to buy electricity and you control the markup.
    • EasyPay SGC:
Load EasyPay's SGC on the meter. Clients can then buy tokens from EasyPay vendors (e.g., Shoprite/Checkers), and they'll be subject to EasyPay's markup.
  • No Maintenance Contract Required: No need for a maintenance contract with the landlord. EasyPay can pay directly into the landlord's bank account.

Smart Prepaid:
  • PNPSCADA Integration: The wallet exists on the PNPSCADA server.
  • Requirements:
    • Your own SGC.
    • An STS Vending Server (e.g., PRISM).
  • Setup:
    • Load your SGC on the meter and connect your STS Vending Server to PNPSCADA.
    • PNPSCADA reads the meter daily, deducts consumption from the wallet, and vends a switch-off token from your STS Vending Server when the wallet goes negative.
    • Use an online payment system (or your own kiosk for cash) such as PayFAST for tenants to buy electricity. PayFAST notifies PNPSCADA of payments, which are credited to the tenant's wallet.
    • If the wallet goes positive, PNPSCADA vends a switch-on token from your STS Vending Server.
  • Maintenance Contract Required: You need a maintenance contract with the landlord for managing the meters, communication to the meter, and handling payment queries.

We primarily handle smart prepaid setups.

Once you know which prepaid method you want to go for you can choose a meter.
If you want to go for smart prepaid, you don't technically need n STS meter.
You just need a meter that can be switched remotely.
