We do have a uRTU unit that counts pulses (similar to the MIU in that respect); but it needs to have electricity (power) all the time. Is that ok?
It gives the usage in a profile of half hour values, and can keep about a month of data. You can read it as often as you want, since it is not powered from batteries.
