As far as I understand, Hexing customizes meter builds for people. So the potential number of db files are a lot. For instance, we have multiple clients with the HXE110-KP, but they have different firmware, in the sense that in the one you can put pf in the profile, but no reactive energy, whereas in the other 'build' you can put reactive energy in the profile, but not power factor.
So typically, when someone get supplied his 'build' by the manufacturer, they give you the corresponding db file that 'fits' the firmware permutation they gave you.
Personally, the name I use for this is 'firmware fatigue' it makes it difficult to write software that 'supports everything'. We have made pnpscada flexible to adapt to the available / programmed profile to an extent.
